San Francisco Frozen Film Festival and other updates
Carissa by David Sauvage
Short Documentary about girl who managed to escape and overcome sex trafficking.
I was moved to tears by this one. Very inspirational and worth the watch. I would have liked it to focus more on addressing the issue of sex trafficking however.
Fantaisie in Bubblewrap by Arthur Metcalf
Animated Short about bubblewrap.
Hilarious. Couldn't stop laughing throughout the entire short.
Sweet Dreams by Kristen Lepore
Animated Short about a cupcake tired of his life.
Made me laugh and crave doughnuts at the same time. Cute and delicious. Cool set design.
Character Driven by James Mahoney
Dramatic Short about a man who realizes he is actually acting in an action thriller when he receives the film footage of his life.
Trippy concept and very thought-provoking. Especially interesting for Final Cut Pro users. I love parallel worlds.
The Seed by Renson Mateo
Dramatic Short about a man gone crazy or a victim of fiber optic camouflage?
Made me think twice about mental disorders and sanity. Again, I love parallel worlds.
Other notables include Nobody by Lance Murphey, Doxology by Michael Langan, and Now You See Me Now You Don't by Attila Szasz.
Oh and NERDCORE FOR LIFE!

In other news I've been working on EducateOne and have taken up watercolor and sketching. I have decided to partially replace my camera with a sketchbook since it is much more rewarding and cost-effective to draw scenes in my life rather than take photos of it. I'm moving out of San Francisco end of July, and to New York on August 14th. Until then, I just want to tap into my non-sciencey side, spend time with loved ones, and try to do everything on this list before I leave.

Chillin' with Google exec's, Silicon Valley superstars, and the mayor of SF at Jay Z's book party

Had the pleasure of attending an exclusive book party honoring Jonathan Zittrain over the weekend, thanks to friend Jeff. Enjoyed wine, champagne, and the cutest little hors d'oeuvres fed to me by ninja-style servers, in the amazing residence of Larry Ellison (CEO of Oracle), overlooking the Golden Gate bridge. Besides being the youngest, probably one of the poorest, and most ridiculously underdressed attendees there, I was excited to chat with:
- a Fletcher alumnus currently practicing cyberlaw
- an Apple .mac web designer with a film background from NYU
- a non-profit PR/marketing dude named Parker
- Owen Thomas, CEO of valleywag.com
- Zittrain's brother, Jeff, a musician
- a tech reporter for the Financial Times
- one of the pioneers of IP blogging
Also let out silently high-pitched geeky/girly shrieking from being in the same room with:
- Larry Page, Google Co-Founder
- Aaron Swartz, programming extraordinare
- Marissa Mayer, Google VP
- Craig Newmark of Craigslist
- Arianna Huffington of the huffingtonpost.com
- Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, and wife Melanie, romance novelist
- Gavin Newsom, the mayor of SF
Unfortunately, did not have enough balls or brains to approach any of them. Lesson learned: seize the opportunity to network when it presents itself to you! Ah well, a glimpse into lifestyles of the Rich and Famous of Silicon Valley, if there ever was such a thing (there is now!). Oh, and I spilled champagne on the hard-wood floor, nice! Get the story here or here.
